With Wimbledon just over two weeks away, there are two key tournaments to watch: the Halle Open in Germany and the Cinch Championship in London. These events are seen as warm-ups for Wimbledon and can help gauge where the players stand. Roger Federer holds the record for the most Halle Open wins with 10, and it's no surprise he also holds the record for most Wimbledon titles (8). Last year, Carlos Alcaraz won the Cinch Championship before defeating Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. So, yes, these tournaments matter. Here are some matches to look out for this week.
[Halle Open (Germany)](https://m.betking.com/sports/events/prematch/tennis/atp/halle) **Marcos Giron vs. Andrey Rublev (6)** Andrey Rublev is ahead in their head-to-head 2-0, having won their last match at the Italian Open earlier this year. However, victory on Tuesday would mean the world to him following his disappointing performance at the French Open. The Russian star had a complete meltdown, losing to Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the third round in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4. Rublev smashed racquets and kicked benches as the World #6 was beaten by the unranked Arnaldi. He would later admit; “I don’t remember behaving worse at a grand slam. It's not about concentration. I think it's because the way I behave, I put myself completely down, and I gave Matteo wings to fly, and he was flying in the third set unbelievably. It was too late to do anything.” Marcos Giron comes into this as an underdog, but perhaps this is the worst possible time to be facing a clearly angry Rublev. With Wimbledon - another grand slam - just weeks away, this is the game for him to get his game right, and we fully expect a dominant display from him.
**Jannik Sinner (1) vs. Tallon Griekspoor** World #1, Jannik Sinner has had a great start to the year with victories in the Australian Open, Rotterdam Open and Miami Open. The one weakness for him, however, has been the Clay where he has lost in the semi-final of the Monte-Carlo Masters to Stefanos Tsitsipas and French Open to Carlos Alcaraz, both of whom won the titles. Ahead of Tuesday’s game, he’ll be heavily favoured against the Netherlands’ very own Tallon Griekspoor. While we expect Sinner to win this, especially given his perfect head-to-head record against him (4-0), we think Griekspoor will put up a fight. For starters, all four of Sinner’s wins against Griekspoor have come on Hard Court, where he is the most comfortable. But this game will be played on Grass which is Griekspoor’s favourite playing surface. Also, Griekspoor is known for being a tough nut to crack. His third round meeting with Alexander Zverev in the French Open went 5 sets and was arguably the match of the tournament. That said, we’re still leaning on Jannik Sinner, but our bet of the day is for Griekspoor to win a set.
**Alexander Zverev (4) vs. Oscar Otte** Alexander Zverev is looking to bounce back from his recent French Open final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz. The 27-year-old German had a 2-1 lead after three sets and seemed on track to win his first Grand Slam, but Alcaraz fought back, dominating the last two sets with 6-1 and 6-2 wins. We expect Zverev to win this match easily. He's currently ranked 4th in the world, while Oscar Otte is ranked 438. Plus, Zverev has won 9 of his last 10 matches, with the French Open final being his only loss. In contrast, Otte has lost 6 of his last 10 games. The last time they met, in the 2021 French Open, Zverev won. He's an even better player now, and we're confident he'll secure another victory.
**Halle Open Winner:** This might seem odd, but I have a feeling Andrey Rublev will win the Halle Open. The disappointment from his meltdown at the French Open was tough, and he seems determined to make things right. It won’t be easy with top players like Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner in the mix, but I just have a gut feeling about this.
[Cinch Championships (England)](https://m.betking.com/sports/events/prematch/tennis/atp/london) **Andy Murray vs. Alexei Popyrin** Britain’s Andy Murray has the most Cinch Championships (5), but that won't mean much when he faces Alexei Popyrin. Murray's last win in this tournament was in 2016, and at 37, he's not the player he used to be. The Former World #1 has even hinted at a potential retirement, though there are rumours he would like to attend the Olympics. On the other hand, 24-year-old Popyrin is just starting his career. He's had a mixed start to 2024, losing to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open but making it to the semi-finals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. Popyrin also defeated the defending champion and sixth seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets in the second round of the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters, marking his second career top 10 win on clay. We expect a hard-fought game, but members of our online betting community should lean on Alexei Popyrin to deliver a win.
**Carlos Alcaraz (2) vs. Francisco Cerundolo** Fresh off his French Open win, Carlos Alcaraz will look to maintain his momentum as he faces Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 32. Alcaraz won this tournament last year, which set the stage for his Wimbledon triumph, and he's likely aiming to follow the same successful strategy. He won all 12 of his grass court matches last year, so it would be a huge surprise if he lost this one. Although Francisco Cerundolo defeated Alcaraz in their only previous meeting, that was five years ago when Alcaraz was just 16 and not even old enough to buy a beer or drive. At just 21, Alcaraz is the youngest male tennis player to win three different Grand Slam titles. In that form, this should be a walk in the park for the Spaniard.
**Brandon Nakashima vs. Daniel Evans** Having played each other in April at ATP Barcelona, Brandon Nakashima and Daniel Evans meet for the second time this year and fourth time overall, with a spot in the Round of 16 up for grabs. Nakashima was the victor back in April, winning in straight sets (7-6, 6-2). With two wins in their previous three meetings, Nakashima comes into this match as the slight favourite. Meanwhile, Daniel Evans is in poor form and will hope that playing in his home country brings a change in fortunes. Before the grass court season, the 34-year-old had lost his last seven ATP Tour matches and was beaten in the first round of both Grand Slam this year. While we believe Nakashima will win, it's worth noting that Evans has won the first set in his last five matches. So, it might be worth taking a risk on him to extend that streak to six.
**Cinch Championship Winner** It’s hard to see past Carlos Alcaraz retaining his title. There is hardly anyone in the Cinch Championship on his level and barring an injury, we expect him to comfortably win the title.
