With one week left until the January transfer window closes, there are still several deals to be done as contenders aim to press their advantage and relegation-threatened sides scurry for safety. Already, Tottenham have signed Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner from Genoa and Leipzig on loan, Jordan Henderson has ripped up his Al-Ettifaq contract and moved to Ajax FC while Leonardo Bonucci has moved from Union Berlin to Fenerbahce on a short-term deal.   More recently, West Ham have finalized terms on a temporary move for Kalvin Phillips. Despite his inability to break into the City squad, Phillips should get substantial playing time for West Ham, where he can make a case for his inclusion in England’s EUROs squad. While these transfers have dominated the window’s highlights, anticipation remains high for more significant deals in the week before the window slams shut.    Naturally, we’ve compiled some of the latest transfer news and gossip for football fans and punters to stay informed. Why? Some of these moves are relevant to the success/failure of the club(s) you bet on. **PSG eyes Newcastle’s £100m release clause for Bruno Guimaraes:** According to the transfer rumour mill, Paris Saint-Germain has set its sights on Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as the Magpies face potential financial constraints.  Newcastle is cautious about breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules after their Saudi Arabia takeover and may need to offload key assets to secure funds for the upcoming summer transfer window.  This, in turn, could open the door for valuable players to be sold. Guimaraes, with a £100 million release clause, is one such player. Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle in January 2022 for a reported £40m from Lyon. Since his arrival, he’s featured 87 times for the Magpie and his potential departure would be a significant setback for the team.

**Barcelona demands €80 million + for Ronald Araujo**  FC Barcelona have reportedly set an asking price of over €80 million on centre-back, Ronald Araujo for clubs who are interested in getting his services.  Araujo’s sensational form has attracted the interest of several elite clubs in Europe with Bayern Munich and Manchester United leading the race.  Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel happens to be a huge admirer of 24-year-old Uruguayan, but Barcelona’s persistence on a €80m transfer fee have seen the Bundesliga champions interest wane.  Despite Barcelona’s firm stance on the asking price in the winter market, Manchester United is considering a move for the player having made a formal enquiry from the La Liga club, according to various sources.   Araujo’s contract runs until 2026, and with a reported €1 billion release clause, Barca are likely to retain him for now, but speculation about his future is expected to persist until the summer.

**Chelsea looks to the Saudi Pro League for goalscoring solutions.** Early struggles have seen Chelsea struggle in the first half of the season before regaining some form in the second half. Despite this improvement, however, they still need a reliable goalscorer to finish the chances players like Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling create. There is plenty of interest in Super Eagles star forward, Victor Osimhen across Europe. Naturally, Chelsea have been identified as one of the Nigerian’s prospective suitors. However, any move for the Napoli forward would have to be in the summer. As a result, attention has reportedly turned to the Saudi Pro League where several of the players who moved there last summer have begun to crave a return to more familiar surroundings. Top of that list is Karim Benzema who is just one season away from leading Real Madrid’s title challenge in 2022/2023. If a move for the former Real Madrid striker proves to be too difficult to get over the line, the Blues will reportedly look to sign either Roberto Firminho or Aleksandar Mitrovic.
